Welcome to the Milwaukee Bike Plan Update

6th St Bridge Over the past several years, the City of Milwaukee has achieved substantial gains in the area of bicycle transportation, including earning the Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community designation from the League of American Bicyclists. The City recognizes that pathways, on-street bikeways and parks and green space are critical components of a livable urban community. The City's bikeway system offers numerous benefits from air and water quality improvements, reduced dependency on automobiles, stronger community and neighborhood identity, recreation opportunities, and improved public health. A comprehensive system of on-street and off-street bikeways connected to key destinations will help harness redevelopment and outside funding opportunities for the City.

Through short and long-term infrastructure and policy solutions, an updated Bicycle Master Plan will help Milwaukee's decision makers achieve the bicycle mode share goal of 2.5% of all trips 5 miles or less by the year 2015.

"Five years ago I knew every bicyclist I saw on the road in Milwaukee, now I only recognize a few of the dozens I pass everyday on my ride to work."
   - Dave Schlabowske, City of Milwaukee's Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator
