How about a partnership with the Downtown YMCA, a "bike commuter" program where, for a reduced price, bicyclists get access to a locker and shower facilities, but not the full gym. I work downtown, and had considered the Y but it was just too costly. I didn't want to pay full price for the full facility since I would only be there for the shower/locker facilities.

I commute from Bayview to downtown, which is mostly a nice commute. The main problem is the lack of a bike lane on KK north of the KK river. For most of the stretch north of the river, there is a shoulder/parking lane which VERY few people use for parking. I propose this shoulder/parking lane be turned into a bike lane. There is ample side street parking in this area (KK between downtown and the KK river is pretty desolate) for those who need to park around there. Just an idea.

One more thing ... since I have limited characters per post: The east-west routes in and out of Downtown are fairly bike friendly, my personal favorite is Highland, and I'm eagerly awaiting the completion of the Highland bridge just west of Harley Davidson. A bike/bus only lane along Wisconsin Avenue downtown and through the Marquette campus would make the Downtown portion of my daily commute a little more enjoyable, although I have't had any major problems.

The Hawley Road bridge just north of Wells Street could be a great connection for us west siders to reach the Oak Leaf and the HAST. But that bridge can be downright treachorous for a biker. Is there anything that can be done to add a bike lane to that bridge?

I've been riding my bike both for pleasure and to get to work for over 20 years. The improvements have been substantial and I have high hopes for the future. I believe that explanding off road routes is the best way to improve Milwaukee bicycling. Because I live in Glendale and work in downtown Milwaukee the rail routes connecting the trail at Hampton Ave. to the trail in Brown Deer would be great! Also, fixing the drainage problem near North and Farwell on the trail would be appreciated!

I commute by bicycle from the Mitchell Airport area to Downtown. I use Howell/Chase/6th Streets as my route. Some areas have bike lanes, most do not. I am forced most of the time to block traffic in the one driving lane or ride in the dangerous "door zone". More bike lanes along this corridor would open up safe bike travel from the South Side to Downtown, Miller Park and jobs in the valley, connect to the Hank Aaron trail, the Harley Museum and countless other areas of interest.

Please install a bike lane on the Hoan Bridge. Additionally, please put bike racks on Milwaukee buses. Thanks, -Cody Pine

Communities need to consider bikes as transportation rather than just recreation toys. Bike paths need to be added on roads that actually go somewhere -shopping centers, schools. I live in Greendale and street improvment projects (Grange Ave, 76th St., Loomis) do not accomadate bikes. Traveling to Southridge or Village center, requires a death defying ride or a circuitous route and twice the distance in order remain on safe streets. Also true for the south end of the Oak Leaf and south KK.

What happened to the street cleaners? I'm shocked at the amount of dangerous debris and broken glass in the roadway where bikes can travel. Also, when will buses have bike racks? More routes are cut every year and it would help if I could bike to a bus.

I am searching for a map of the Oak Leag Trail. Was told to go here and there but still haven't found it. Could you make it simpler, like a link to the trail map period. Haven't enjoyed the site yet. I am clicking off and will try another site. It shouldn't be this difficult to find the map. If there's an easy way, please let me know.

The pot holes are such a problem. They are dangerous and the right lanes are loaded with them as well as gravel. I don't know if when they fill the holes the workers are just dumping gravel. At one point on Howell I had to get out the bike lane and into the center lane because there was so much gravel dumped. Then cars began honking their horns at me to get out of their lane!

This morning while bicycling to Marquette I saw a vehicle drive fast in the bicycle lane, passing two other vehicles on their right. I was a few hundred yards behind. I also noticed that the county buses often drive in the bike lanes so they don't have to pull into and out of the traffic lane between stops. We really could use some help from traffic enforcement - this is one of biggest reasons many people don't bike to work or school.

of course we want bike racks on buses for now but when new buses are purchased they should be in two sections with the trailer section having only hangar straps. therefore it would not only be easier to board bikes but strollers, packages and etc. people board busses for a puirpose as much as for getting from a to b. one could still board as many as with a single long bus. and the trailer could be detached to save gas when passenger load on a gsiven run is light

My one comment on bike lanes is how incredibly well intentioned they are. Unfortunately, when I drive to work down Silver spring, I'm afraid to think what would happen biking in the bike lane. I see drivers regularly driving/passing in the parking/bike lane at a high rate of speed. When I do bike to work, I ride all the way up to Mequon road then back down to capitol dr, adding 14-15 miles to my 11 mile commute. I don't see a great east/west commuter option for me. Thank you. -Jeff Miller
